Day By Day And With Each Passing Moment

Day By Day Lyrics

Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best--
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Ev'ry day the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He whose name is Counselor and Pow'r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
"As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,"
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then in eve'ry tribulation
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith's sweet consolation
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E'er to take, as from a father's hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.

The Story

Karolina Wilhelmina Sandell-Berg was born in 1832 in Sweden. She was the daughter of a pastor of the town pastor. Karolina was devoted to her father; as a child she preferred to spend time in her father's study rather than going out to play.

When Karolina was 26, tragedy struck. On a ship voyage with her father, the ship suddenly lurched forward and Karolina witnessed as her father fell overboard and drowned. Broken-hearted, she began to write hymns that reflected a simple, child-like trust in Christ.

Karolina's words were paired with Oskar Ahnfelt's music and the hymns helped influence a religious revival throughout the Scandanavian countries in the latter half of the 19th century. Karlolina signed her hymns "L.S.", which she was affectionately known by throughout Sweden. She has been falled the "Fanny Crosby of Sweden" for her prolific hymn work.

We live in a world today where there people not only neglect God, there seem to be more people trying to wipe God out of our lives completely. You hear stories of activists trying to remove nativity scenes or postings of the Ten Commandments. Which is a shame, because the world is driving God away at a time when the world needs God most.

But those aren't the things to be concerned about. The most important thing is to have God in your own heart. If you do, his promises are yours. His grace will be sufficient for you, through
