Looking for lyrics to song....

Shut in with God in a secret place - (can't remember the rest)
Posted:  30 Nov 2006 07:39
First I found this and then still continued trying to see if there was more. I then found the next part submitted by a person to a group on Yahoo and she had written 2 more verses. There are just a couple words different in the first verse of the two.

SHUT IN WITH GOD

Shut in with God
in a secret place;
There in the Spirit
beholding His face;
Gaining more Power
to run in the race,
I love to be
shut in with God.

(Here is the 2nd one.)

Shut in With God

Shut in with God
in a secret place,
there in the Spirit
beholding His Face...
Finding more power
to run in this race...
O how I long to be
shut in with God!

Shut in with God
while kneeling in prayer,
Finding His Beauty
and Glory there....
I bow in wonder
at His awesome Grace,
As He shuts me in
His Holy place.

As I'm shut in with God,
my strenght is renewed,
I soar like a eagle,
I'm born anew...
O the wonder!
O the Grace!
As I'm shut in with God
in this Holy place!

When I was a child there was a group of older people who would sing this song occasionally. I am sure there are more verses, but I can only remember the first verse and the refrain. I can play the melody "by ear" on the piano. Mike Hicks

Shut In With God

[Verse 1]
Of all pleasant places though rugged may be
There's no other place that's dearer to me
Than lo at the feet of my saviour I be
Oh I love to be shut in with God

[refrain]
Shut in with God in a secret place
Shut in with God beholding His face
Gaining new power to run in this race
Oh I love to be shut in with God

Shut in with God

The disciples were praying for the power to fall
Ten days they did tarry, on God they did call
Then God sent His spirit to baptize them all
For they had been shut in with God

Chorus
Shut in with God in a secret place
There in the spirit, beholding His face
Gaining new power to run in this race
Oh, I love to be shut in with God

Of all pleasant places on land or on sea
There’s no place on earth that is sweeter to me
Than to kneel at the feet of my Master and Lord
For there, I’ll be shut in with God

The pathway to Heaven, though rugged it may be
I’ll travel ‘til my precious Saviour I’ll see
Then the gates of that city will open for me
And there I’ll be shut in with God

Chorus x 2

I was laying there this morning, part of that song was on my heart. I just could'nt remember all the song. I was feeling the longing to be shut in with God. Then I thought I would look and see if I could find the rest of that song. I am so happy I did. I don't  know the verses but  the chorus was a blessing. Thank you.

Thank you for these beautiful verses.  The chorus has been turning over in my heart and I have been unable to find the song in any hymnals.  So glad for the computer and your willingness to share.  God bless you and may we all desire to be shut in with God.

This was a song my mother sang on her deathbed, the evening before she went to be "shut in with God".

I awakened this a.m. and had my prayer & Bible study. When I finished I went in to get ready for the day.  Out of the clear blue the words of this precious hymn,  Shut in with God in the secret place was singing in my spirit.   I was so touched because I have not heard or thought of that hymn in years and years.  My Father and Mother pastored a church for 35 yrs and used to sing it as a special when I was a child in the 60's.  God is so faithful.  I am a pastors wife and was telling our ladies just  last night at our home group about how important it is to make time for our precious Lord and not rush through our time with Him.  How touching that He should bring this timeless hymn to my spirit.  I did not have it in any of my hymnals..So grateful to find it.  Bless you.

Just wanted to say that I have been looking for the words to the verses of this song for several years.  The wife of the pastor I was raised under sang this song as I was growing up and she is the only person I know who knows the lyrics, and it is so hard to get in touch with her.  I have been wanting to sing this.  God's timing is perfect.  We are having an "old-fashioned day" at our church in the near future and I was wanting to include this song.  It means so much to me to have the words.  Thanks to all of you that supplied lyrics.  God bless.

Thank you so much for the words to this song. We used to sing it when I was a young person. It just started going over and over in my spirit about a week ago. I could not remember all the words but my spirit kept singing "shut in with God... I LONG to be shut in with God"
Do you know where I can find the music to this? I have forgotten the music to the refrain.
Thanks

Thanks to the guest poster on 3 Feb 08.  Those are certainly the traditional lyrics I heard growing up, and that I heard my grandfather sing dozens of times.  I am trying to learn the song myself, so thanks soooo much for posting them.

There's also a verse that my aunt sung, it goes like this but I don't remember all the words:
One day in the Temple Isaiah cried out woe unto me for I am with out
He saw god exhalted upon the great throne when he had been shut in with god.

I'm so grateful to The Lord Jesus Christ that I've finally come along this beautiful hymn. I have been humming it in my heart but without knowing the lyrics for quite some time now. To God be all the glory..... for I long to be shut in with God.

May God bless you all

I was a part of the Move of God movement and we sang these songs together
In the Secret Place of the Most High from Psalm 91
In the Secret Place of the Most HIgh
In the Land where we never will die
Where the arrow by day does not hinder our way
In the Secret Place of the MOst HIgh

Ten thousand shall fall at your right hand
And a thousand fall down at your side
But it shall not come nigh unto thee My Son
In the Secret Place of the MOst High
with out stopping or hesitating we would start singing
Shut in with God in the Secret Place
Here in the Spirit beholding Your Face
Gaining new power to run in the race
I long to be shut in with God
We would sing both of these as if they were one song over and over again
very blessed time of praise when sining these songs.  I played the guitar and often led worship with these two songs - and then as the Spirit moved we would  go into another song.  I loved the praise services of the Move of God .  God Bless you all and thanks for all of this sharing - these songs were running through these songs this evening - a Rhema/Word of God to me. Love and bless you all

Thank you so much for the lyrics. On Monday the 20th of Aug 2012, at 6:00 a.m. while sitting in my lawn chair praying and meditating on The Lord and His will for today, the words of this song began to stir my heart. Over and over, I sang the chorus, not remembering the verses. You see, Carolyn, my lovely wife of twenty nine and one half years went to be with the Lord on Dec 13 th 2011  where she is truly "shut in with God."  At age 70, I,m finding more time to be shut in with God and to minister to the seniors at the center for seniors each day. Thanks again for the Lyrics and God bless you. kelloy @yahoo.com

hisword2me (says)  There are many beautiful choruses and hymns from as the youngsters call - THE OLD DAYS - that have much meaning and depth in the words.  It's a shame that some of these modern worship leaders don't seek out some of the elderly and ask them to share some of them that they can remember.

There was a beautiful chorus that I had heard and learned at a chrurch convention (as they were called many years ago), and all I can remember is a small part of it that went:  I will sing for you - dance for you - lift my hands in praise to you;  These are expressions of my love - - - - - - -   The church was in Merino, CO., and the pastor Wayne Kirschbaum, has long since passed away.  But that chorus just melted my heart.

This song is copyrighted and written by Everett W. Sugg (rest in peace) of Fort Worth Texas. He attended the Gospel Assembly church from 1953 until his passing in 1999. I am his son, and watcher of copyright violations. You may sing it as much as you want.....BUT,  don't try to record it (it's so costly).  Ron Sugg

My bad. This is  NOT  the same song I was thinking about. I finally saw the verses . So, just forget I was even here.   Ron
