| I am looking for the music and lyrics to an older chorus called "Hear O Lord the sound of my voice". I would appreciate if you could assist in the search. | |

I'm not certain if there is more to it. These are the words that i usually sing though. Hope it helps:
Hear O Lord, the sound of my voice Hear O Lrod, have mercy My soul is longing for the glory of You Hear O Lord, and answer me. |

Hello Barron,
My mother owns the 12" LP and now recently the remastered CD. However I debate with my Mother over the fact if the singers are saying Voice or Call. I say they are saying call. Here are the words for the song. Chorus Hear, O Lord the sound of my (voice or call?) Hear O Lord and have mercy. My soul is longing for the Glory of you, O Hear O Lord and answer me. 1st Verse Every night before I sleep, I pray my soul to take, or elseI pray that lonliness is gone when I awake. Chorus 2nd Verse Why do I no longer feel, like I've a place to stay, O take me where someone will care so fear will go away. Chorus 3rd Verse In you O Lord I place my cares and all my troubles too. Oh grant dear Lord that someday soon I'll live in peace with you. Chorus Nikki |

The CD can be purchased on Amazon.com and a website called BigUpRadio at: http://www.bigupradio.com/albumDetail.jsp?aid=4788
I did a google search and found this. Just so you know the CD is a remaster of the original LP which was recorded in Trinidad W.I. Two of the songs on the CD have the artists names incorrectly listed. Other than that everything seems to be correct. Like I stated my mother has the LP so I compared the LP to the CD and that is how I know. You know what I will tell which two songs they are just in case you get the CD. First song is Sing Out My Soul to the Lord - the CD has it being sung by Goretti Group and Dixieland when the original LP has it listed as being sung by Holy Name Choir and Guitars. Second song Let Us Break Bread Together on the CD it is listed as being sung by Holy Name Choir and Guitar while on the LP it is sung by Holy Name Choir and Dixieland. The players that made this album happen are: Holy Name Convent School Choir The Goretti Group Texaco Dixieland Steel Orchestra Olympia Thunderbirds Acoustic Guitars played by - Andrew Cromwell, Rosalene O'Connor, Ann Campbell and Curtis Pierre Produced by Herman Hadeed Recording Engineer - Max Serrao Mixing and Editing - Max Serrao Recorded at Holy Name Convent - Trinidad |

I just want to say a big "thank you" to you for posting this on your blog. Last night I heard it being played by a steel band (which was in rehearsal) and it brought back so many memories. I knew the song as a child growing up and remember it was done by a steel band in church many years ago. It was heavenly. I rushed home and sang it to my daughter and had her sing the alto/tenor to the song while I sang soprano. She could not appreciate it as much as I did. The child is only 16, what does she know? I tried to find it on lyrics.com this morning but it was not listed. Imagine my joy when I came across your blog while still searching for it. Like you, I could only remember the chorus so I will definitely try to get the CD. Thank you so very much.

Peter all the information where you can find the song is listed in this blog. I love this song and was surprised to find it as I did as well. I bought the remastered CD from Amazon. The lyrics I knew from singing it as a child. My mother still owns the 12" LP. Just remember the two of the songs listed on the CD have the wrong artists names. I have listed it in my post above as to the correct information. I will email you the information you seek.

| I am blessed by this blog!;-) I spontaneously thought of this song and the song TAKE OUR BREAD recently while meditating... Couldn't remember all the words to all the verses...Many thanks! Its strange...working as a Professor at a world famous university I have all the trappings of Ivy League education, books and music at my disposal, and yet, it is amazing that some simple little song such as this can be so evocative ...touching my heart and soul some 40 years since I first heard it... I used to sing it as an early morning paper boy in Pittsburgh...afraid of the dark at 9 years of age...I would sing this song aloud to comfort myself... now, bereft of my parents and two brothers, l still find comfort in this song... | |

The soloist on "Sing Out My Soul" is my friend Christine Cardinez.
There was another album also done by Holy name Convent & Dixie Land Steelband called - "Wake Up My People". This one is even more difficult to find than the "Sing Out My Soul" album. |

I find it interesting that 'Guest' further up the blog put the words as they did. Here are the ones we sing (and have sung for as long as I can recall) in New Zealand, and they make so much sense to me and seem more positive than those that Guest quoted. I am looking for an MP3 of this if anyone knows any links.
Our words are as follows: Refrain: Hear O Lord the sound of my call, Hear O Lord and have mercy My soul is longing for the Glory of you O hear O Lord and answer me For the Lord is my light and strength So whom have I to fear? He watches over my life below In Him alone I trust. Refrain One thing I ask of you O Lord Just one thing I implore To live all my days in the house of the Lord and be at peace with you. Refrain Now my head is raised on high I sing and make music for Him And so I offer in His tent A sacrifice of Joy. Refrain. Hope others enjoy these words Thanks Another Guest |

Thank you all for posting this! My grandmother used to play this album every Sunday, on St. Thomas, USVI when I was a child, and I loved to hear her sing it!!! I didn't know where to purchase the CD but I now I do! so Thank you all for posting this!!!
This song touches my soul like no other-and now I'm an adult, I know why my grandmother sang it, and played it as often as she could. When I need solitude with the Lord, I pray and sing this song--I just love it! Thanks! Jeanine |
