I'm looking for an older hymn that begins "They began to form a line..." (and that is all I remember from the beginning).
The chorus has this: "In the Great Beyond...over in the Land of Eden... (and then I forget some)...What a Hallelujah morning, when we gather over there...I'll be united (then I forget)...forevermore." Do you know the name of this song? How about its composer? And where could I find the music to it (hymnal, book, online, etc.). Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, as we are looking for this song for a funeral. wncmacs |

1.] DEATH BEGAN TO FORM A LINE TO CROSS THE RIVER WHEN ABEL DIED FROM HIS OWN BROTHER'S HAND; NOW THE STREAM OF MORTAL SOULS HAVE SWELLED OLD JORDAN, PASSING ON THERE IN JUDGMENT TO STAND.
CHO.] IN THAT GREAT BEYOND OVER IN THE LAND OF EDEN I'LL MEET MY FRIENDS WHO LEFT THIS WORLD SO LONG AGO; WHAT A HALLELUJAH MORINING WHEN WE GATHER OVER THERE WE WILL PRAISE OUR BLESSD LORD FOREVER MORE. 2.] I HAVE STOOD BY A FRIEND WHILE THEY WERE DYING, THE HAND OF DEATH WOULD LEAVE THEIR FORM SO COLD AND STILL, OFT I WONDERED WHAT THEY SAW WHILE THEY WERE CROSSING AND WHO THEY MET AT THE TOP OF THE HILL. 3.] I'M SO GLAD THAT A WAY WAS MADE AT CALVARY WHEN JESUS DIED WAS LAID TO REST IN THE TOMB; IN THE GRAVE HE SLEPT AWHILE THEN OVER POWERED IT, PRAISE HIS NAME THAT HE LIVES EVER MORE. THE NAME OF THE SONG IS "THE GREAT BEYOND" I DON'T KNOW WHO SINGS IT. I REMEMBER HEARING THIS SONG WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. YOU CAN FIND THESE LYRICS AND MORE ON WWW.CALVINCLARK.COM GOD BLESS YOU! In The Great Beyond
It began to form a line to cross the River When Abel died from his own brother’s hand Now the streams of mortal souls have swelled Ol’ Jordan Passing on there in judgment to stay In the great Beyond over in the land of Eden I’ll meet my friends who’ve left this world so long ago What a hallelujah morning when we gather over there We will Praise our Blessed Lord evermore. I’m so glad that a way was made at Calvary When Jesus died was laid to rest in the Tomb In the Grave He slept awhile then overpowered it Praise His name that He lives evermore. Chorus…… |

LORD IT'S JUST ANOTHER HILL
I OFTEN TRIALS AND TROUBLES GATHER ROUND US, AND IT SEEMS I'M IN THIS VALLEY ALL ALONE. THEN I FEEL HIS LOVE ENCAMPED AROUND ME AND SOMEDAY I KNOW I'M GOING HOME. II SOMETIMES A HILL SEEMS A LITTLE HIGHER AND I FEEL I WILL NEVER SEE HIS FACE. EVERY RIVER SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE WIDER BUT BY THE HELP OF THE LORD I'LL WIN THIS RACE. CHORUS LORD IT'S JUST ANOTHER HILL THAT I'M CLIMBING LORD IT'S JUST ANOTHER TEAR TO WIPE AWAY. IF I CAN JUST HOLD ON A LITTLE LONGER I'LL BE REJOICING IN HEAVEN SOMEDAY. |

This song was indeed written by Brother Roscoe Reed, my father, A.R. (HAWK) Hawkins, best friend. I miss them both as they are now both over in the land of eden. If any of Brother Roscoe's children read this, truly wish we all could re-connect. Dad has been gone since 1984 and I miss their old time type of singing. It was and still is the best. Brother Roscoe spent many a day in our home with Dad playing the piano and them singing those precious old songs about our Saviour.
