I would like to find the rest of the words to a hymn
"For me to live is Christ to die is gain
To hold his hand and walk the narrow way
There is no peace no joy no thrill than walking in his will
For me to live is Christ to die is gain"

are there any other verses to this hymn?

Taken from Youth Praise 2 No 267 (I was brought up on Youth Praise 1!)
More importantly based on Philippians 1 v 21:

For me to live is Christ, to die is gain
to hold His hand and walk His narrow way
there is no peace, no joy, no thrill, Like walking in His will
For me to live is Christ, to die is gain

Now once my heart was full of sin and shame
Till someone told me Jesus came to save
When He said "Come home to me"
He set my poor heart free
For me to live is Christ, to die is gain

Now there are things that I still do not know
But of this one thing I'm completely sure
He who called me on that day
Washed all my sin away
For me to live is Christ, to die is gain

If you go to
http://www.smallchurchmusic.com/SongListF.php ...

Scroll down and you will see the song downloadable in Mp3. You will have to pay a small charge (as it is copyright) but most of the hymns on the site in mp3 are free (& there are 1000s).

I was interested in your enquiry about the song, 'For me to live is Christ, to die is gain'.   I am the author and composer of the song   and I was happy that people were singing it to the glory of God.  I have no idea who holds the copyright as I wanted it to be freely used, and I find it very strange that someone else should claim the copyright without informing me.  I would be willing to send you a casette recording of the Glorylanders singing it.

Keith I am very interested to read what you have said there.
The only book in which I can find this song is Youth Praise Book 2. I'm not sure of the publication date, but my copy has coffee stains which date from about 1973! The copyright there is assigned to J White and dated 1969.
Are you one and the same White?
This is a beautiful tune and fine words, especially the chorus. I hope I do not cause offence if I say I have never found the verses to be as striking as the chorus, nor exactly true to the context of Philippians. In fact I confess to writing alternative verses if anyone is interested.

Very pleased to have found these words again. They do, in my view, express both the joy that Paul finds in the Christians at Philippi and the reason why nothing can diminish that joy. I first heard the words sung at an excellent concert by the Glorylanders in  Hull (probably City  Hall) just a few years ago...:-)
Great to see Keith's comments

Any one knows this son...philippians 1:21
I have found that in this world, there are many greatest people
but i saw them in their life, they are hopeless in their soul. so then christ lead me to go, to preach the gospel to the nation.......

I sang this in the 1970's - and NYLC events in Guernsey.  The words came to mind this morning - just the first line.  So glad to have found it all - now I can sing it all.

We used to sing this song in our young peoples meeting back in the seventies. Sadly I no longer qualify as a young person but this song remains one of my favourites from that era

Dear Keith, I was wondering if you are the author and composer of the song "For Me to Live is CHRIST and to Die is Gain", wonder who has been receiving the supposedly royalty for your copyright!  I love this song and used to sing it in church in the 70s and even in the 80's.  I just don't feel comfortable that someone is claiming copyright and royalty instead of the rightful author and composer!  Thank you Keith for the lovely song that we can dedicate to GOD!

Woke up this morning with this song in mind! Started writing it into my journal but wanted to check my memory of a couple of words - and found this excellent link. Thank you Keith for offering this free - as many did in the 60's and 70's. All such songs should be left as Anon unless the composer/author is identified and not pulled into the copyright world incorrectly

Hi People
The song attributed to J White was in fact written by Keith White.  We had a folksy country gospel band way back in the sixties and Used to sing this song.  Keith was our much loved mentor evangelist and still to this day loves country and motorbikes but still also does open air evangelism in Rochdale UK.   It was when the Glorylanders decided to record it that the name J White was incorrectly attached and has been there ever since.

I just remembered the song by Keith White while choosing songs for morning service, some REND and Kendrick et all, but the words and music of 'for me to live'  still hold up just as well. I loved the Glorylanders so thanks Keith! - also a duo who went by the name of 'Harold and Gareth' used to do a cover at our youth meetings in Grappenhall
