Is this the song you want?

I was standing by the banks of a river
Looking out over lifes troubled seas
When I saw an old ship that was sailing
Is that the old ship of Zion I see

It's hull was bent and battered
From the storms of life I could see
Waves were rough but that old ship kept sailing
Is that the old ship of Zion I see

At the stern of the ship was the captain
I could hear as he called out my name
Get on board It's the old ship of Zion
It will never pass this way again

As I step on board I'll be leaving
All my troubles and trials behind
I'll be safe with Jesus the captain
Sailing out on the old ship of Zion

Amuna, Here are more lyrics to a song called
"The Old Ship Of Zion" , Rita
                                                   1. O what ship is this that comes sailing by,
O glory halle hallelujah!
'Tis the old ship of Zion, hallelujah!
'Tis the old ship of Zion, hallelujah!
2. And will this ship be able to carry us safe thro'
O glory halle hallelujah!
Yes, Jesus is her captain, hallelujah!
Yes, Jesus is her captain, hallelujah!

3. All her passengers will land on the bright eternal shore,
O glory halle hallelujah!
And they'll shout their sufferings over, hallelujah!
And they'll shout their sufferings over, hallelujah!

4. She has landed many thousands, and will land so many more,
O glory halle hallelujah!
She will land them over Jordan, hallelujah!
She will land them over Jordan, hallelujah!

Your search is over....lol Great song. One of my all time favorites by my ALL time favorite group....enjoy.

THE OLD SHIP OF ZION IS SAILING FOR HOME
DEFYING THE TEMPEST AND RIDING THE FOAM
ON BOARD CRIES THE CAPTAIN OH MAKE NO DELAY
THE OLD SHIP OF ZION IS SAILING AWAY

THE OLD SHIP OF ZION'S  STILL SAILING TODAY
AND GATHERING PILGRIMS ALONG ON LIFE'S WAY
SHE'S LANDING HER MILLIONS AND STILL LANDING MORE
THE SAVED OF ALL AGES ON SOME FAIR NEW SHORE

{chorus}

THE OLD SHIP OF ZION UNFAILING
AND OVER LIFE'S OCEANS STILL SAILING
DEFYING THE TEMPEST SHE'S RIDING THE FOAM
THE OLD SHIP OF ZION IS SAILING FOR HOME

THE OLD SHIP OF ZION OH WONDERFUL SITE
HER BEACONS ARE SHINING FAR OUT IN THE NIGHT
SWEET MUSIC IS RINGING ITS ECHOES PROLONG
WHILE MILLIONS ARE SINGING A GLAD HAPPY SONG

THE OLD SHIP IS SAILING FOR LIFE'S OTHER SIDE
THE MASTER OF OCEANS HER VOYAGE WILL GUIDE
THE WINDS AND THE WATERS OBEYING THE LORD
NO SHIP CAN GO DOWN WITH THE MASTER ON BOARD

The song that I knew in my childhood as The Old Ship of Zion, went like this:

I was drifting away on life's pitiless sea,
And the angry waves threatened my ruin to be,
When away at my side, there I dimly descried,
A stately old vessel, and loudly I cried--
"Ship, a-hoy! Ship, a-hoy!"
And loudly I cried: "Ship a-hoy!"

'Twas the "old ship of Zion," thus sailing along,
All aboard her seemed joyous, I heard their sweet song;
And the Captain's kind ear, ever ready to hear,
Caught my wail of distress, as I cried out in fear--
"Ship, a-hoy! Ship, a-hoy!"
As I cried out in fear: "Ship, a-hoy!"

The good Captain commanded a boat to be low'red,
And with tender compassion, He took me on board;
And I'm happy to-day, all my sins washed away
In the blood of my Saviour; and now I can say--
"Bless the Lord! Bless the Lord!"
From my soul I can say: "Bless the Lord!"

O soul, sinking down 'neath sin's merciless wave,
The strong arm of our Captian is mighty to save;
Then trust Him today, no longer delay,
Board the old ship of Zion, and shout on your way:
"Jesus saves! Jesus saves!"
Shout and sing on your way: "Jesus saves!"

I am looking for a version sung by the oak ridge boys I think. " I stood along the stormy banks, looking out upon the ocean.
I watched the ships come safely in to rest beside the shore,
the friends of those on board her, were gatheredthere to meet them,
it made me long for heaven, where friends shall part no more.
I'm sailing t'ward home, on the old ship of zion,
I see the lights along the banks that rest along the shore,
angels guard my vessel, till I'm safe within the harbour,
Captain guide my ship, till I get home.
any help would be appreciated

Sailing Toward Home is the name of the song you are looking for.

I STOOD UPON A SANDY BANK LOOKING OUT ACROSS THE OCEAN
I WATCHED THE SHIPS COME SAFELY IN TO REST BESIDE THE SHORE
THE FRIENDS OF THOSE ABOARD HER WERE GATHERED THERE TO GREET THEM
IT MADE ME LONG FOR HEAVEN WHERE FRIENDS WILL PART NO MORE

I'M SAILING TOWARD HOME ON THE OLD SHIP OF ZION
I SEE THE LIGHTS UPON THE BANK ACROSS THE MISTY FOLD
ANGELS GUARD MY VESSEL TIL I'M SAFE WITHIN THE HARBOR
CAPTAIN GUIDE MY SHIP TIL I GET HOME

NOW DADDY SAILED THE SEAS OF LIFE AND KNEW THE STORMS I'D WEATHER
HE TOLD ME OF A SAVIOR WHO COULD CHART MY DESTINY
NOW THE MISTY VEIL HAS LIFTED I CAN PLAINLY SEE THE HARBOUR
AND DADDY STANDING ON THE BANKS TO SMILE AND WELCOME ME

HOPE THIS HELPS

Does anyone know of a song with the chorus

Until I'm safe in the harbor lord
Don't give up on me
You see I'm counting on you to see me through stormy weather
Untill i'm safe in the harbor lord, don't let the tide pull me under...
that's all I can think of

There's a lot of southern gospel lyrics at this website - http://www.calvinclark.com/Lyrics.html

It has Gloryland on it.  I'm not sure about the 3rd verse, but the rest looks correct.

I also am looking for this song. My aunt had it on cassette when I was a teen. It on that cassette was sang by Veronica Raney..not sure about the spelling of her last name. I believe the title is "Safe in the harbor" I would dearly love to find her CD if it exists.

Here is the song "Glory Land"

If you have friends in Glory land
Who’ve left because of pain,
There’ll be no pain in Glory land
They’ll suffer not again

Chorus
So weep not friends I’m going home
Up there we’ll die no more
No coffins will be made up there
No graves on that bright shore

The lame in Glor--y land will walk
The blind up there will see
The deaf in Glor--y land will hear
The dumb will speak to me

Repeat Chorus

There’ll be no sun in Glory land
The moon and stars won’t shine
For Christ himself is light up there
We’ll live on love divine

Repeat Chorus

VERSE 1
She's a big old ship,
She's sittin' mighty low in the water
She's been on her maiden voyage
Ever since the day the blood of Calvary bought her
She's weathered violent storms
Some passengers jumped overboard and they drowned
But she's not just some Titanic
She's the Church and she ain't going down

CHORUS
Sail on old ship of Zion
Brave what lurks in the cold dark night
Sail on old ship of Zion
Until you see that Beacon Light
He's on board and you're not alone
Sail on 'til you hear the captain
Say, "Lands in sight"
Church you've made it home

BRIDGE
This ship was launched from a hill outside Jerusalem
Caught a brand new gust of wind
When she breezed through the upper room
Yes, she rode out a storm with a jail cell song, at midnight
What makes you think she's gonna sink in some modern day typhoon

CHORUS

BRIDGE

TAG
Sail on old ship of Zion
He's on board and you're not alone
Sail on 'til you hear the captain
Say, "Lands in sight"
Church you've made it home
