I'm looking for the lyrics to a song I remember being sung in church whin I was a child. I think it's called I'll be Waiting by the River for You. I believe it begins with

If I had to make the crossing over Jordan deep and wide
and to leave you in this life I promise you
That when life on earth is over and you've come to cross the tide
I'll be waiting at by the river for you.

Thanks,
Tim

1.] If I have to make the crossing of the Jordan deep and wide and you linger in this life I promise you when your life on earth is over and you've come to cross the tide I'll be waiting at the river for you.

Chorus.] No more heartaches, no more sorrows, no tears to dim the eyes I could never say goodbye again to you hand in hand we'll walk together walking Heaven's avenue I'll be waiting at the river for you.

2.] Just beyond that shining river there's a land of pure delight where someday I'll start a life again anew there a mansion built by Jesus where no one will ever die I'll be waiting at the river for you.

God Bless You,  sherry

Far Side Banks of Jordan

I believe my steps are growing wearier each day,
Still I have a journey on my mind;
The wars of this old world has ceased to make me want to stay,
But my one regret is leaving you behind.

If it proves to be God's will that I am first to go,
And somehow I've a feeling it will be;
When it comes your time to travel, likewise, don't prolong,
For I will be there waiting, don't you see.

I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan,
I'll be waiting, drawing pictures in the sand;
And when I see you coming I will rise up with a shout,
And come running through the shallow waters, reaching for your hand.

Through this life we've labored hard to earn our meager fare,
It brought us trembling hands and failing eyes;
I'll just rest there on the shore and wait for that glad day,
Until you join me there in paradise.

I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan,
I'll be waiting, drawing pictures in the sand;
And when I see you coming I will rise up with a shout,
And come running through the shallow waters, reaching for your hand.

I'll be waiting on the far side banks of Jordan,
I'll be waiting, drawing pictures in the sand;
And when I see you coming I will rise up with a shout,
And come running through the shallow waters, reaching for your hand.

And come running through the shallow waters, reaching for your hand.

hi guys,

The song is actually I'LL BE WAITING AT THE RIVER FOR YOU. I know this for a fact because my grandfather William Bill Hopper wrote it,

you right it goes,

if i have to make the crossing of jordans deep and wide, and ill linger in this life i promise you as my life on earth is over and i come to cross the tide.

no more sorrow no more heart aches no more tears to dim the eyes

and it keeps going if you guys need to know anything else let me know

Hi trackbfootball,

Thanks for sharing...it's always great when the families of the great songwriters and composers post their insights on the board.

We'd love to hear any more memories and insights you have about your grandfather and his hymn writing. Aside from helping people find lyrics, one thing I love about our little online community is that it's a way for us to share and preserve lyrics and stories that might otherwise be lost.

God bless!

The Far side banks of Jordan was written by Terry Smith
It was also the favorite song of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash
wonderful song!!

I don't know the other song, but it sounds like it might be good also!

Trackbfootball......
Can you please put the lyrics to the whole song on here.... And if anyone knows where I can find the lyrics or even hear the song I Welcome You Now, To Meet Me Up There.
If I'm not mistaken The Inspirations sang it at one time.
Thanks
Jessica

I was asked today, at the last minute to sing at a funeral for a young man 41 yrs. old who asked for someone to sing this song: "I'll Be Waiting At The River For You." I have no idea as to what it sounds like and have not found it in any of my baptist or old hymnals. Can anyone tell me where I can at least listen to it and be able to play it from hearing the correct tune of the song. I do not know this family and would really like to help them out. The funeral is tomorrow afternoon. I am at a loss. contact me at scarlisle@triad.rr.com I would greatly appreciate your assistance. This is a pretty neat site by the way, since this is the first time I have had to do this sort of thing. SC

There seems to be a lot of conflict with the lyrics of "I'll Be Waiting At The River For You."  I have listened to youtubes and they do not match the written lyrics.  Does anyone have the correct lyrics according the sheet music that Bill Hopper wrote?  I would love to have the correct lyrics.  The most conflict is in Verse Two.

Just beyond that shining river (there's, is, lies) a land of pure delight where someday I'll start a life again anew (There's my, and in my, in my) mansion built by Jesus (where, and) no one (shall, will) ever die I'll be waiting at the river for you.

I'll Be Waiting At The River, was made popular by the Singing Stewards out f Kingsport, TN back in 1990. It was a top 10 song in the gospel charts for 8 months. The Primitive QT from Candler, NC also recoreded this song in 1991 and then The Dalton Gang made it popular also.
