Guest, this is the way I remember this particular song.

Sons of God
Hear His holy word
Gather round the table of the Lord
Eat His body drink His Blood
As we sing our song of love
Allelu, Allelu,Alleluia

I believe that this was originally an old German beer drinking song.

You can also substitute "as we have a REAL GOOD TIME".
Oh, camp days...

This was always one of my favorite hymns.  Why don't they sing it anymore???  Could it really be a German Beer drinking song???  Maybe that is why I liked it so much.

I recall that the next line of the hymn was:

"Brothers, Sisters we are young, in the Spirit we are one, we shall live for ever,

Sons of God, Hear his holy word, gather around the table of the Lord, Eat His Body, drink his Blood and we'll sing a sone of love,
Allelu, Allelu, Alleluia.

If it is a beer drinking song, I want it sung at my funeral!!

Holy Communion: Sons Of God

R-  Sons of God: Hear His Holy word,

Gather around the table of the Lord

Eat His Body, drink His Blood

And we'll sing a song of love

  Allelu, allelu, allelu, alleluia.

1-  Brothers, sister we are one,

And our life has just begun,

In the spirit we are young,

  We can live forever.

2-  Shout together to the Lord

  Who has promised our reward,

  Happiness a hundred fold

  And we'll live forever.

3-  Jesus gave a new command:

That we love our fellow man,

Till we reach the promised land

  Where we'll live forever.

4-  If we want to live with Him,

We must also die with Him,

  Die to selfishness and sin

  And we'll live forever.

5-  Make the world a unity,

  Make all men one family,

  Till we meet The Trinity

  And we'll live forever.

6-  With the church we celebrate,

  Jesus coming we await,

  So we'll make a holiday,

  So we'll live forever.

Sons of God
Hear His holy word
Gather round
The table of the Lord...

Eat His body, Drink His Blood
And we'll sing a song of love,
Alle-lu, Alle-lu,
Alleluia!

Brothers, Sisters, We are one
Brothers all are we!
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony!

I sang this hymn at my 1st communion, St. Luke's in Cleveland OH 1966.  Never fogot it, but was a little vague on a couple verses.  Thanks and God bless.

I'm looking for the music for this hymn.  My First Communion Children recently watched a Davey and Goliath movie about Holy Communion.  This hymn was being sung in the background during the movie.  It's contagious!

Thanks for this discussion!  I remember this from way back... only, no one else remembers, and they think I'm nuts.   This discussion prompted me to search YouTube - where there are several videos with this song.

Lots of times if you just remember part of the lyrics of a song, you can Google those words, and the complete song will come up.

I'm off to find MORE songs that nobody remembers...

(Here we are, all together, as we sing our song, joyfully....

The music was originally published in the F.E.L. publication, Hymnal for Young Christians, (c) 1966, and then by Walther League, Hymns for Now, (c) 1968. You can still find copies once in a while of either publication and I think F.E.L. still has the copyright.
