When I Needed A Neighbor Werer You There
I am looking for this hymn for my Mum's funeral which is next week.

Hi Guest,

Here is what I could find:

1.
When I needed a neighbour
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a neighbour
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

2.
I was hungry and thirsty
Were you there, were you there?
I was hungry and thirsty
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

3.
I was cold, I was naked
Were you there, were you there?
I was cold, I was naked
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

4.
When I needed a shelter
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a shelter
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

5.
When I needed a healer
Were you there, were you there?
When I needed a healer
Were you there?
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
Were you there?

6.
Wherever you travel
I'll be there, I'll be there.
Wherever you travel
I'll be there.
And the creed and the colour
And the name won't matter
I'll be there.

May God be with you and your family in this difficult time.

God bless,
Steve

I came across your message while searching for other lyrics.  I want to offer my condolences and further information.

This hymn was written by Sydney Carter who is represented by Stainer & Bell in Britain http://www.stainer.co.uk/index.html

I had the pleasure of meeting him on a Canadian tour about 20 yrs ago, sadly he too has passed away.  I hope you find the resources you need, and find comfort in the prayers of others in your time of need.

This is one of 40 hymns we sing at our school, since our school is very religious, and it is my favourite one that we've sung at Service so far.

And the song made me think of my faith, or rather lack of it now, first time for a looong time...

I bought this on a single back when I was a teenager going to youth group. Now 50 years on my Granddaughter is using it at school for her devotion assignment biased on the Good Samaritan. It says evey thing that is needed. Thank-you Sydney Carter. R.I.P.

This song popped into my mind with the refuge crisis.  It is a nice call to remember the basics-- to reach beyond our fears and be that person to notice.
