An elderly lady in our congregation wants a hymn she remmbers that has the line in it: I just fall on my knees...
She has frozen knee joints and I'm sure that's why she remembers that one line. Our music director and searches in all our old hymnals and collections are no help. She can't even remember the tune. Since she is in her '80's and a Southerner and favors the Gaither Family music, that's where I've been searching. Any help in the search appreciated. |

This is a long shot, but there is a southern gospel hymn called "I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy". It's been featured on many Gaither broadcasts:
I dreamed of a city called Glory, So bright and so fair. When I entered that gate I cried, "Holy" The angels all met me there: They carried me from mansion to mansion, And oh what sites I saw. But I said, "I want to see Jesus, He's the One who died for all." Chorus Then I bowed on my knees and cried, "Holy, Holy, Holy." Then I clapped my hands and sang, "Glory, Glory to the Son of God." Then I bowed on my knees and cried, "Holy, Holy, Holy." Then I clapped my hands and sang, "Glory, Glory to the Son of God." I thought as I entered that city, My friends all knew me well. They showed me the streets of Heaven; Such scenes too numerous to tell; I saw Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Mark, Luke and Timothy. But I said, "I want to see Jesus, He's the One who died for me." Chorus Then I bowed on my knees and cried, "Holy, Holy, Holy." Then I clapped my hands and sang, "Glory, Glory to the Son of God." Then I bowed on my knees and cried, "Holy, Holy, Holy." Then I clapped my hands and sang, "Glory, Glory to the Son of God." There are also two at least contemporary songs with that line. One is by Corrinne May: Everything In Its Time (By Corrinne May) Sometimes I wonder what lies ahead How long till my hunger is fed They say it’s hard to make it in this part of town So many people on this merry-go-around Some folks try astrology Some turn to crystal balls To find an answer To get through it all I just fall on my knees and I try to pray In the silence I can hear Him say The river runs and the river hides Out to the ocean and under the sky I promise you, the answer will come Hold on to patience and watch for the sign Everything in its time I often feel like I’m two steps behind Somebody must have moved that finish line There are a thousand reasons why I should give up But I’m stubborn in the things I believe The river runs and the river hides Out to the ocean and under the sky I promise you, the answer will come Hold on to patience and watch for the sign Everything in its time ‘cause maybe there’s another plan One I still can’t see A little surprise, like your love in my life Funny how time changes how we see The river runs and the river hides Out to the ocean and under the sky I promise you, the answer will come Hold on to patience and watch for the sign Everything in its time Everything in its time The other by Jaci Velasquez: Just A Prayer Away Tears that fell like rain Streamed down from my heart Colors turned to gray Emptiness led the way Until I fell apart You came to save me To show me that Chorus: You're just a prayer away No matter where I am I know in my heart You're never too far When I'm losing my way You're just a prayer away My strength is in my faith I'm never alone I'm never afraid Cuz' you're just a prayer away When I close my eyes Lord, I call your name And the dark subsides Nothing can take the place Of the peace I find You came to save me To show me that Repeat Chorus: Whenever I need to find you I just fall on my knees In you I find the strength that I need to live To believe Repeat Chorus: Not sure if any of these are it...if not, let me know, and I'll keep searching!
Thanks, Steve |

The lady was deeply moved by your replies to my query. I shall probably here from her this week about the particulars - we just had a brief moment today for me to hand her a print-out.
Our morning worship had a strange happening - there was a bat in the sanctuary holding at the highest point in an arch! We met in the basement and one of the brothers cimbed up that afternoon and removed it only to find out it had two young. Yes, we fell prey to the "bats in the belfrey" cliche, but it WAS funny. Thank you again for sharing your expertise - the laughter is a small return for your time. ~E |

Hi E,
I've had bats in the belfry, but never literally! So funny!
Hope the hymn turns out to be the right one. God bless! Steve |

Save Me
(written by: Corrinne May From the album "Safe From A Crazy World" I drift, I burn, I fly When you sing lullabies I'm helpless, I'm yearning I'm like the putty in your hands I laugh, I dream, I cry When you take me on a roller coaster ride You see me through and through You see just who i am Just take my hand and Save me from this place Heaven knows I'm falling For you, my sweet embrace Heaven Knows Heaven knows I've been waiting for you I had a dream that i was falling from the sky At 90 miles an hour I was bound to crash and die But out of nowhere you came and rescued me There must be some grace in the touch of your face I'm so happy that I've found you I'm no longer afraid Oh ' cause you Save me from this place Heaven knows i'm falling For you my sweet embrace Heaven knows Heaven knows I've been waiting Before i met you Life was slow-mo So slow-mo I thought i had it figured out But you came and turned my whole world upside down Save me from this place Heaven knows I'm falling For you, my sweet embrace Heaven knows Heaven knows you've come to Save me from this place Heaven knows I'm falling For you, my sweet embrace Heaven Knows Heaven knows I've been waiting for you Waiting for you |

I woke up with the song " I bowed on my knees and cried Holy" in my head, but I could not remember all the words. I needed to find the lyrics because I literally couldn't get the song out of my head. I typed in the title as I knew it and my search engine led me to your website. Thanks for being here

Back in 1977, there was a song on a christian station called "Guilty of Love in the First Degree" It started out with a gavel banging on the bench and the narrator says to bring the prisoner in; Of course that being Jesus. I have searched everywhere for that song and can not find it. Do you think you can? I would like the words and the music to it, or at least know where I could buy it. Well, thanks again.

Surprised "Let Us Break Bread Together" has not come up yet; it would match the background given in the original request. I've seen the 3rd line as both "When I fall on my knees" and "As I fall on my knees". It's a simple spiritual often sung without a hymnal, so suppose "I just fall on my knees" may also have been adopted in some settings.
Let us break bread together on our knees, (on our knees) Let us break bread together on our knees. (on our knees) When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. Let us drink wine together on our knees, (on our knees) Let us drink wine together on our knees. (on our knees) When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. Let us praise God together on our knees, (on our knees) Let us praise God together on our knees. (on our knees) When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. |

Would this be the song you are looking for? I am not sure whether it is a Christian song.
Last night I was dreaming I was locked in a prison cell When I woke up I was screaming Calling out your name (whoa) And the judge and the jury They all put the blame on me (the blame on me) They wouldn't go for my story They wouldn't to hear my plea Only you can set me free 'Cause I'm guilty (Guilty) Guilty as a girl can be Come on baby can't you see I stand accused Of love in the first degree (Guilty) Of love in the first degree Someday I'm believing You will come to my rescue Unchain the heart your keepin' Let me start a new (uuuu) The hours passed so slowly Since they've thrown away the key (Away the key) Can't you see that I'm lonely Won't you help me be Only you can set me free 'Cause I'm guilty (Guilty) Guilty as a girl can be Come on baby can't you see I stand accused Of love in the first degree (Guilty) Of Love in the first degree (Guilty) Of Love (Guilty) Of Love in (Guilty) of Love (Guilty) of Love in (Guilty) Of love in the first degree And the judge and the jury They all put the blame on me They wouldn't go for my story They wouldn't hear my plea Only you can set me free 'Cause I'm guilty (Guilty) Guilty as a girl can be Come on baby can't you see I stand accused Of love in the first degree |

| I"m sure the song the elderly lady was refering to was the first song listed. It is sang on the Gaither show and is very moving. I fell on my knees and cried Holy, has to be one of the most stirring songs I have ever heard! No matter how many times I hear it, It still brings tears to my eyes! Beautiful!! | |
